Documented history

Ultras Yomus: history of Valencia's ultra group since 1983

Ultras Yomus was born in the summer of 1983, in the wave of groups that followed the 1982 World Cup. According to El Temps, which cites the book «Tolerància zero. La violència al futbol», the name comes from the word «yomus» that a fan in the north end of the then Luis Casanova stadium used to murmur. In its early days it stood on the standing terrace and brought together young people from varied backgrounds.

1992–2007: registration and the nineties

The group was officially registered in 1992 in Càrcer, according to El Temps. The weekly describes the entry into the stand, during the nineties, of far-right splinter groups and records that the Anti-Violence Commission fined 52 members of Ultras Yomus over the disturbances around Osasuna's stadium in 2007.

2012–2014: the Curva Nord

In 2012, Yomus, the peña Gol Gran and hundreds of young people formed the Curva Nord, the animation stand that the board approved in the 2012/13 season. In 2013, Yomus announced its dissolution, according to El Temps. RTVE noted in 2014 that within the Curva Nord it was the Yomus members who carried «the weight of the animation». In December 2014, the club banned the Yomus banner from entering and asked the Curva Nord to break with the group; the Curva responded by not singing for 43 minutes against Rayo Vallecano, according to elDiario.es.

2016–2019: confrontation with the club and expulsion

El Temps records a confrontation between the group and Valencia's board in 2016. After the attacks on the 9 d'Octubre march in 2017, in which, according to investigators, at least 13 of those charged were linked to Ultras Yomus, the club expelled the radicals from Mestalla in 2019. El Español explains that Valencia banned several members for taking part in those attacks and for the neo-Nazi symbols displayed in the stadium. The charges belong to the investigation phase, not to a conviction.

2021: Valencia refuses to collaborate with Ultra Yomus

On 11 November, Valencia refused in a statement to meet people who claimed to represent Ultra Yomus, recalled its decision to expel the radicals from Mestalla in 2019 and reaffirmed that it would not collaborate with the group.
