Documented history

Symmachiarii: Real Oviedo's ultra group since 1994

Symmachiarii is the ultra group of Real Oviedo. According to the club, it was born on 19 November 1994 on the occasion of a match against Deportivo at the old Carlos Tartiere. In 2009 it celebrated its 15th anniversary with an event in the Plaza de Trascorrales attended by a delegation from the squad and coaching staff, with an exhibition of photographs and press cuttings on its history.

1994: a group born against politics in the stands

In an interview with Blanquivioletas published in October 2015, the group explained that before its creation in Oviedo «there were constant political rows between Chiribis and Brigadas». Symmachiarii was born in 1994 on three pillars that the group itself summed up as: loyalty to Oviedo, «anti-Sporting sentiment» and apoliticism. The rivalry with Sporting de Gijón is part of that founding definition.

Fanzine, radio and trophies

According to the same 2015 interview, the group's activity is not limited to the stands. It has published a fanzine since its beginnings and, for its 20th anniversary, launched the radio programme «Fonde Este». It also presents the Marcos and Diamantino trophies, named after two deceased members, to the best player of the first team and of the reserve side.

2016–2017: Fondo Norte 1926

In February 2016, Symmachiarii launched the «Fondo Norte 1926» initiative to create an animation stand with popular prices at the Tartiere, according to La Nueva España. LaLiga made its approval conditional on fingerprint access, a requirement the group rejected. In September 2017, its spokesman explained to La Voz de Asturias that the group was legalised as a peña, as LaLiga requires, and that it led the singing in Fondo Norte 1926, the stadium's animation stand.

Pablo Fernández's report in La Voz de Asturias, published on 18 November 2024, describes the tifo unfurled before Oviedo–Tenerife for the group's 30th anniversary. The composition, inspired by The Godfather and carrying the slogan «Todo por la familia» (“Everything for the family”), covered more than 2,100 square metres between Tribuna Naranco and Fondo Norte and included a reference to the Teatinos ground. Ideology and identity · Symmachiarii

Symmachiarii defines itself as apolitical. In September 2017, its spokesman explained to La Voz de Asturias that politics and football «should not be linked» and that any political element is removed from the stand; in 2015 the group already listed apoliticism among its three pillars, alongside loyalty to Oviedo and «anti-Sporting sentiment». A degree dissertation from the University of La Laguna (2025) cites it as an example of a group that «considers itself apolitical». This is the group's own self-definition, not an independent assessment.
