Documented history

Ultra Boys: Sporting de Gijón's ultra group since 1981

Ultra Boys emerged in 1981 in the south end of El Molinón, then under the name Hinchada Fondo Sur. La Soga counts it among the groups that predate the 1982 World Cup and notes the presence of young mods in its early years. Its history includes organising Sporting's centenary match in 2005 and a continuous presence in Gol Sur.

The eighties: from friendship to enmity with Herri Norte

In the early years of the Spanish ultra movement, Ultra Boys was friendly with Herri Norte, of Athletic. La Soga's retrospective explains that this relationship ended up becoming, years later, one of the bitterest enmities between groups in Spanish football.

30 December 2005: the centenary match

Ultra Boys organised the match that closed Sporting's centenary. AS's preview announced three teams named after historic club figures, Anselmo López, Pepe Ortiz and Jesús Castro, and 59 players called up. EFE's report, published by La Nación, finally counted 56 footballers from different eras and more than 14,000 spectators; the event was played as three half-hour matches, with musical performances and historic images.

Gol Sur and the «Siempre Sporting» banner

LaLiga's complaint reports of 2015 place the group in the south end of El Molinón: in May, in the lower part of Gol Fondo Sur, behind its usual banner «Siempre Sporting»; in September, on the right-hand side of that stand, by the entrance at gate 15. Those reports estimated between 300 and 400 people in the group's sector, a figure for the crowd in that area, not for its members.

Relations with other groups

In December 2014, RTVE and Europa Press attributed to Ultra Boys a good relationship with Frente Atlético and a years-long enmity with Riazor Blues, of Deportivo; a degree dissertation from Miguel Hernández University (2023) also lists Ultra Boys among Riazor Blues's rivals. In October 2024, El Español noted that Frente Bokerón, of Málaga, maintained a «very good connection» with Ultra Boys.

2023–2026: the Anti-Violence list and the protest over prices

In February 2023, El Independiente listed Ultra Boys among the fifteen groups that the State Anti-Violence Commission considered dangerous and violent. In March 2026, the group, part of Sporting's animation stand, announced that it would not attend the match against Deportivo in protest at the price of the «Club Day»; the club replied that this matchday would not exist in the following season's season-ticket campaign, according to EFE.
