Documented history

Ligallo Fondo Norte: Real Zaragoza's ultra group since 1986

Ligallo Fondo Norte emerged in the 1986/87 season, when two groups at La Romareda, Fondo Juvenil, at gate 9, and Ligallo Chobenil, in the Gol de Pie (the standing end), were unified under a single name. This is how the history the group publishes season by season tells it; La Soga also dates its foundation to 1986.

1987–1992: a split, a scarf and a fanzine

According to its own account, in 1987/88 part of the group broke away to form Unión Norte, of a «more right-wing» tendency, over disagreement with the Ligallo's political leanings; that year a 20-metre banner was unveiled. In 1988/89, a new generation introduced the first membership card, a black scarf with a five-pointed star and a skull, presented as a «symbol of provocation rather than of ideology», and the fanzine, which in 1991/92 began to be published regularly. For 1990/91 the group recalls the invasion of the Fondo Norte by Boixos Nois as the episode of greatest impact that year.

1993–1995: young stand, crush and friendships

In 1993/94 the club created a young stand separate from the Ligallo, and a crush at the match against Barcelona broke the fence and sent some 40 members into the moat, which put an end to the Gol de Pie, according to the group's account. In 1994/95, on an away trip to Santander, its friendship with Juventudes Verdiblancas, of Racing, began to take shape. For the 1992/93 season, the same archive describes the preparation of choreographies with cards and balloons inside the stadium.

1998–2006: Tribuna Fondo Norte and near disappearance

In 1998/99 the group managed to position itself more centrally in the Tribuna Fondo Norte. In 2000/01, fifteen years after its foundation, it came close to disappearing; some 40 members decided to carry on and reorganised it without a single leader and with a monthly fanzine. In 2004/05 it began a friendship with Polonia Warsaw supporters. The group recalls the 2005/06 season for the racist insults directed at Samuel Eto'o, a Barcelona player, which the club's president attributed to the Ligallo; the group's account disputes that attribution.

2014–2017: LaLiga notes and the Getafe brawl

Real Zaragoza announced a meeting with the Federación de Peñas, Ligallo, Avispero, Leyales and Colectivo 1932 to address physical and verbal violence. In December 2014, RTVE reported a clash in Soria between Ligallo and Avispero, another Zaragoza group. LaLiga's notes from 2015 to 2017 place the Ligallo in the Fondo Norte: in sector 17 of the north end in March 2016 and in the upper part of the end stand in 2017, when it called a protest outside the stadium over the team's situation. In December 2016, members of Ligallo and Avispero were arrested for their alleged participation in the Getafe brawl.

In June 2026, with Zaragoza playing at the Ibercaja Estadio, the National Police arrested 24 Ligallo ultras over the incidents at the latest matches, among them a clash with members of Alcorazados, of Huesca, according to El Español. Ideology and identity · Ligallo Fondo Norte

External sources describe Ligallo Fondo Norte as a far-right group: so did the Europa Press report published by RTVE in December 2014, and El Español presented it in June 2026 as a «far-right group», at odds politically and in sporting terms with Alcorazados, of Huesca. The group's own account qualifies its position: it says that in 1987/88 a «more right-wing» faction, Unión Norte, broke away over disagreement with the Ligallo's political leanings, and presents its skull scarf as provocation «rather than ideology».
